St. Valentine’s Day

Expressions of love were everywhere for St. Valentine’s Day - especially in the Clerk’s office where 42 couples tied the knot during this week of romance. For an easy anniversary date to remember, some couples selected Tuesday, February 14 to have their ceremony solemnized by a courthouse judge. Many of the new families and those first applying for their license preserved the special time by posing for a Valentine’s photo in our office.

We wish all the newlyweds health and happiness.

Voting Site Changes

The Clerk’s office is always looking to improve voters' accessibility and, when needed, arrange for alternate locations when a voting site becomes unavailable. Beginning with the April 4, 2017 Consolidated Election, there will be two permanent and one temporary voting site changes. Each registered voter impacted by these changes has already received a new Certificate of Registration card and a letter detailing more specific information.

Permanent Changes

The two permanent voting site location changes are for some West Deerfield and Moraine Township voters. Both of these new voting sites will enhance the voter’s experience by offering more space in the building and improved parking conveniences.

A Hint of History

The next time you are downtown Waukegan, be sure to stop at the County building’s north entrance to see the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument. Originally dedicated in 1899, the monument still proudly stands near Madison and County Streets to honor those who served during the Civil War.

Edith F. Sherman, a graduate of the Chicago Art Institute, was commissioned to create the four panels around the base of the monument. Each panel represents a branch of the Civil War military service - the infantry, artillery, cavalry, and navy.
