Lake County Board of Review Seeking Members to Assist with Property Tax Assessment Appeal Hearings
The Lake County Board of Review is seeking
additional members to assist with property tax assessment appeal hearings. In 2017, the Board of Review will need
additional members for the July through November time frame for the review of
property tax assessment appeal cases.
The Illinois Property Tax Code
permits counties to appoint additional qualified members to the Board “for the
sole purpose of holding separate hearings on complaints” (35 ILCS 200/6-25).
Persons who meet the statutory requirements and are appointed to the board are
paid $250 for each full day of service.
In
order to be eligible for such an appointment, one must be “qualified by
experience and training in property appraisal and property tax administration”
(35 ILCS 200/6-5), and successfully pass an examination administered by the
Illinois Department of Revenue (35 ILCS 200/6-10).
Persons
who meet the real estate experience condition for eligibility are invited to
take the state examination, which will be administered by the Illinois
Department of Revenue at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. The examination
will be held in the auditorium of Building A of the Kane County Government
Center, 719 Batavia Ave. in Geneva.
Persons
interested in the Board of Review examination should prepare for the test by
using the Board of Review Basic Course materials that can be accessed at: www.revenue.state.il.us.
