Keeping Lake County Safe
February 2017
I recently completed a five-week Corrections Officer training at the Lake County Jail and was responsible for a 60-inmate pod for 5 days. It was a terrific opportunity to learn hands-on the functions of the Corrections Officers. The video above depicts the duties and responsibilities of a Corrections Officer on a typical day. Corrections is a tough but rewarding career and I'm proud of our Corrections team.

Saturday, March 11, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM College of Lake County - Lakeshore Campus 1 N Genesee Street, Waukegan, IL
I also encourage residents to participate in our upcoming Citizen Police Academy. The Academy is a 10-week program and runs from March 9 to May 18. Participants will see first-hand how the Sheriff’s Office maintains law and order for Lake County residents. Classes are held each Thursday from 6:30 – 9:30 PM.
Instruction is
provided by sworn deputies and civilians in their field of expertise, and is designed to
provide a hands-on understanding of law enforcement. Training will take place at various Sheriff’s Office facilities throughout the county, including the Lake County
Courthouse and Lake County Jail located in Waukegan, as well as the Highway
Patrol Division located in Libertyville. Upon completion of the course, graduates
receive a diploma. Graduation is set for May 18, 2017. View eligibility requirements and the application that must be submitted no later than March 1.
Until next time, stay safe!
Sincerely,
Sheriff Mark C. Curran, Jr.
