There are approximately 143 lakes greater than 6 acres in size in the Des Plaines River Watershed. Out of those 143, 78 lakes have had water quality
assessments, and 60 of those are considered
"impaired" by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois
EPA).
