State to Launch New License Plate Replacement Program

state license plate

The Illinois Secretary of State's office is launching a new license plate replacement program beginning in January to replace the oldest license plates with newly designed plates. Vehicle owners will be notified by mail if they qualify for the new license plates. If you are not up for replacement, you may request a new license plate in January at www.cyberdriveillinois.com for a $29 fee. In addition, vehicle owners with license plates manufactured after 2001 that are showing signs of wear and are difficult to read may visit www.cyberdriveillinois.com to apply for a newly designed plate at no charge.

New Interactive Tool Gives You Look at Snow Removal Operations
The Lake County Division of Transportation has a new interactive mapping tool to give residents a behind-the-scenes look at what goes in to our snow and ice removal operations. Find which snow plow routes you encounter on your way to work or school, see what happens during a typical snow event, and connect with resources that will help you know before you go! Check it out!

Don’t Crowd the Plow
When plow trucks are out, remember to stay back at least 50 feet or two to three car lengths, due to road conditions and so the plow operators can see your vehicles. The Lake County Division of Transportation’s snowplow operators are extremely safety conscious, but they need your help. Stay back, and let them do their job of cleaning the road for you. Don’t Crowd the Plow! Watch our video to learn more.
