The Illinois Secretary of State's office is
launching a new license plate replacement program beginning in January to
replace the oldest license plates with newly designed plates. Vehicle owners
will be notified by mail if they qualify for the new license plates. If you are
not up for replacement, you may request a new license plate in January at www.cyberdriveillinois.com for
a $29 fee. In addition, vehicle owners with license plates manufactured after
2001 that are showing signs of wear and are difficult to read may visit www.cyberdriveillinois.com to
apply for a newly designed plate at no charge.

The Waukegan
Police Department is going to host a Youth Citizen’s Police Academy
aimed at Waukegan High School students. The first of its kind in Lake County,
this program will run Dec. 27 to 30 and a final day Jan. 3, 2017. There is no
cost to students, and lunch will be provided. The Waukegan Police
Department aims to establish a better understanding in the community of what a
law enforcement officer job entails and encourage youth to seek careers in law

give residents a behind-the-scenes look at what goes in to our snow and ice

Don’t Crowd the Plow
When plow trucks are out,
remember to stay back at least 50 feet or two to three car lengths, due to road
conditions and so the plow operators can see your vehicles. The Lake County
Division of Transportation’s snowplow operators are extremely safety conscious,
but they need your help. Stay back, and let them do their job of cleaning the
