Reporting Lake County Election Results

WAUKEGAN, Illinois - County Clerk Carla N. Wyckoff announced that on November 8th, Lake County’s results from all mailed, early voted, and Election Day ballots will be posted at LakeCountyClerk.info after the polls close at 7 p.m.

Election Day totals are the first results to be posted on the clerk’s website. After all voters in line at 7 p.m. are processed, election judges will begin transmitting the tallies from the county’s 122 individual voting sites to the clerk’s office using the internal cellular modem in each of the ballot tabulators.

Once all Election Day precincts have completely reported, the totals for all mailed and early voted ballots are then added to the website. By statute, these ballots must be counted in the clerk’s office by election judges after the polls close at 7 p.m. on election night. Since the Election Day reporting transmissions cannot be interrupted, results from mailed and early ballots will be added afterwards.

Write-in votes for declared candidates will be processed and posted before the end of business on Monday, November 14. There are 26 declared write-in candidates for the races of president/vice-president, U.S. Senate, U.S. Congress, state representative, and coroner.  All ballots are inspected by hand, and votes for the valid candidates are manually counted.  This target date has already been communicated to all candidates involved in races with valid write-in candidates.

On election night, web visitors should click their browser’s refresh button after they enter the results page to ensure the most recent numbers are being viewed. To see partial results or a running total from an area, click on the map view. Because each ballot tabulator can accept all ballots, the “Precincts Reporting” view will be displayed after all Election Day results have been completely reported.

Per Illinois election law, results will not be final until November 22, which is 14 days after the election. This allows for any late-arriving voted by mail ballots and the processing of provisional ballots.
