Fall is coming fast! It seems just about the time we have the yard the way we like, its time to start prepping for winter!
I believe the summer festivals for the villages concluded this past weekend with the Round Lake Heights Annual Festival. Even though they had to dodge a few brief showers, the food was good, band was good and the fireworks show was awesome! Everyone seemed to have a great time including Village Board Member Jeff Katzel, my wife Becki and Round Lake Heights Police Chief John Roehlk. (photo to left). As usual Mayor Terry Lumpkins was working hard in the food tent keeping everyone fed! My wife and I celebrated our 27 year anniversary that day and it was a perfect way to end the evening.

At last Wednesday's Lake Villa Village Board Meeting there was a few people recognized. One of which was a citizen who helped catch a criminal and Officer Lindberg. After completing many intensive and demanding training courses, Officer Lindberg received his certificate from Chief Somerville. (photo on right)
It has been a very busy summer. Besides the many County and Forest Preserve meetings and events there has been many local meetings and events also. I have attended Lake Villa, Lindenhurst, Round Lake Beach and Round Lake Heights Village Board Meetings. I believe keeping the Villages informed and being there to answer questions is important. This is the best way I feel I can serve, understand the needs and work to improve our communities.
I enjoy keeping you informed on things happening around the county and community. Together we can make sure that Lake County remains a wonderful place to call home.
There are so many great activities in our communities to volunteer for and for the whole family to enjoy.
District 3 Rocks!
Sincerely, Tom Weber

Governor
Bruce Rauner recently signed legislation that gives Lake County (along with
McHenry County) the authority to consolidate and dissolve units of local government.
This legislative change helps Lake County build on its consolidation efforts to
improve efficiency of government services and alleviate tax burdens on
residents.
Chairman
Aaron Lawlor said, “We recognize that in these tough times, the same old way of
conducting our business just doesn’t cut it. That’s why we are leading efforts
to save taxpayer money by sharing services, including contracting with
municipalities for plan review and inspection service and providing police
services at cost for some municipalities. We are also exploring the feasibility
of consolidating 911 emergency dispatch centers in the region, which presents
tremendous opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and provide cost
savings.”
The new law
is an expansion of a 2013 law that only applied to DuPage County. This move is
a step toward reducing the more than 7,000 units of government in Illinois,
which is more than any state in the nation.

If you
have prescription drugs that need to be thrown out, do it the safe and
responsible way. Municipal police departments across Lake County want residents to be aware
of the disposal boxes available. The Lake County Underage
Drinking and Drug Prevention Task Force disposal program in partnership with
the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County collected nearly 12,000 pounds
of prescription medicine with an estimated street value of $750,000 in 2015. Find a prescription drug
disposal box near you.
Local
police departments are now not the only place you can dispose of unwanted prescriptions
as Walgreens has recently installed medication disposal kiosks at three Lake
County locations:
- 780
Waukegan Road, Deerfield
- 15
N. Buffalo Grove Road, Buffalo Grove
- 1811
Belvidere Road, Waukegan

Before you drain your pool...
In keeping with the Village's Storm Water Management Program Plan (SMPP) and meeting the requirements of the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) the Village would like to provide a friendly reminder from section 3.1.K
Pool Dewatering from the SMPP.
Chlorinated water discharged to surface waters, roadways or storm sewers has an adverse impact on local storm water quality. High concentrations of chlorine are toxic to wildlife, fish and aquatic plants. The pH of the water should be between 6.5 and 8.5. Algaecides such as copper or silver can interrupt the normal algal and plant growth in receiving waters and should not be present when draining. Prepare appropriately before draining down a pool. It is recommended that one of the following measures be used:
1) Dechlorinate the water in the pool prior to draining through mechanical or chemical means; these types of products are available at local stores.
2) Dechlorinate the water in the pool through natural means. Pool water must sit at least 2 days with a reasonable amount of sun, after the addition of chlorine or bromine. It is recommended that the chlorine level be tested after 2 days to ensure that concentrations are at a safe level (below 0.1 -mg/l). Public Works can perform this test free of charge; to schedule a time, please contact the Village Office.
3) Drain the pool slowly over a several day period across the lawn:
a) Avoid discharging suspended particles (e.g. foreign objects blown into the pool like leaves, seedlings, twigs etc) with pool water.
b) When draining your pool, do not discharge directly onto other private properties or into public right of way including storm sewer inlets.
