Hello Neighbors
This is a Special Summer Update. Mundelein
has a concert in the park - and I am the host on Sunday Aug 1st. The series is held each Sunday during summer from 5pm -
6:30 pm. Please come for the music, cookies and helpful information.
Our communities, the Forest Preserves and park districts have a variety of summer entertainment. For example, Hawthorn Woods has
concerts in the park and other activities each Friday evening. I've detailed below some of the Forest Preserve events and tips to stay cool and safe. Independence Grove's open air (bring your chair) concert is this evening, Tuesday (July 26th) at 7:30 pm.
Regards,
The group Hurricane Gumbo has a unique style of New Orleans inspired music that could be just perfect for a summer's evening - and it's free.
As your District 10 County Board Member, I am sponsoring this one event. Come for the music, the treats and information about Lake County services and departments.
I need a few volunteers to help distribute the treats and information. If you can help, please call 847 980 4519 or email me at cbartels@LakeCountyIL.gov.

STAY COOL: Be Safe, Have Fun as the Heat Wave Continues This Week
With our high temps and humidity, it's important to think about heat related health and safety. As usual, our Lake County Forest Preserve District staff has prepared great tips for you to follow during the ongoing heat wave.
Other ways to "stay cool" include activities at Independence Grove Forest Preserve (Rt. 137 about 1/3 mile east of Rt. 21, Milwaukee Ave.). With boating, swimming, hiking and concerts (Tuesday July 26th. Aug 2nd and Aug 9th at 7:30 pm), it's best to check before you leave the house.
Or you might enjoy spending time in Lakewood Forest Preserve (our very own here in District 10, Rt. 176 just west of Fairfield Rd.) for a cool hike in the shady wooded areas or try you luck fishing. Recently I visited a Forest Preserve that was new to me - Hastings Lake - with a large lake, a playground and many attractions including a wheelchair accessible fishing dock. I spoke to a "local expert" who named about 10 species he's caught.
I hope you enjoy summer and take advantage of the many free events in our communities and Forest Preserves.
