The Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center is
looking for volunteers to join its Lake County Community Health Center
Governing Council. Several positions are currently open on the 13-member board
that oversees the planning and direction of the eight community health centers
operated by the Lake County Health Department.
Governing Council members help provide high quality
healthcare to those in Lake County with little income or no health insurance.
The Council has three basic goals:
-
To improve the health of individuals
with medical needs through high quality health care that is accessible,
coordinated, community directed and culturally sensitive.
-
To provide services focused on
low-income, uninsured/underinsured patients with payments based on individual patient income, and
not turning away anyone regardless of ability to pay.
-
To develop a program for each patient
that includes other community health resources, including ongoing public health and
mental health services.
Members who volunteer their time are appointed for terms of
two years and are expected to attend monthly Governing Council meetings. These
luncheon meetings primarily take place in Waukegan on the fourth Thursday of
each month.
The ideal candidates for these positions are Lake County
residents with strong interests in healthcare or in assisting their
communities, and who have expertise in local government, finance, legal affairs
and/or social service agencies. Those who are currently using community health
center services are particularly encouraged to apply. For more information or
to apply, please call: (847) 377-8296. For more information on the Lake County
Health Department, visit: Health.Lakecountyil.gov.
