Northern Illinois tends to see an increase in ruse burglaries during the summer months, and ruse burglars have already been striking in Lake County and surrounding areas. A ruse burglary is a distraction technique used to lure homeowners outside of their home. After the homeowner is outside the home and distracted by one individual, another individual(s) enters the home typically targeting items to steal such as cash, jewelry, and other items of value. View these reminders to help protect you against ruse burglaries.

Significant Change to Driver’s License/ID Issuing Process

Applicants who visit Driver Services facilities will no longer be issued a new permanent driver’s license or ID card at the end of the application process. Instead, they will leave the facility with a temporary secure paper driver's license which is valid for 45 days. After fraud checks have been conducted to ensure the applicant's identity, a higher quality, more secure driver’s license or ID will be printed and sent via U.S. mail within 15 business days to the applicant's address.
