Property
tax bills were mailed May 2. Tax bills are for the 2015 tax year and are due in
two equal installments on June 2 and Sept. 2. Visit the Treasurer’s Office
website to get answers to some frequently asked questions and for
information on how to make a payment. Keep in mind, while you send your payment
to Lake County, the County only keeps a small portion (about 7%), and the rest
is distributed to many other taxing districts. Visit Lake County’s budget page to
see what Lake County does with its portion.
ComEd will begin upgrading meters in homes
across Lake County with a smart meter. Over 300,000 smart meters will be
installed starting this year and continuing through 2018. This smart meter can
give homeowners access to more information on the home’s electricity use and
help homeowners make changes to help save money on energy bills. Homeowners
will not need to be home if the meter can be accessed. One week prior to
scheduled installation, ComEd will contact homeowners by phone to notify you
when the home is scheduled for installation. The smart meter initiative
will support over 4,500 positions at ComEd. Learn
more about
smart meters.
