Visitors to Lake County’s website www.lakecountyil.gov will discover a fresh,
new website featuring a responsive, innovative design with enhanced functionality
that will result in an improved online experience.
The new site is more accessible as users
can view and interact with the site from any device, including smartphones and
tablets. It has a cleaner layout so residents and customers can quickly and
easily navigate and connect with the services and information they need. It
also features new functionality, including a module to “Report a Concern,” such
as a pot hole or lost animal.
Lake County Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor said, “Our website
provides the thousands of people who visit it with an important first
impression about Lake County government. We want to make sure that www.lakecountyil.gov demonstrates our
core values to residents and taxpayers - efficiency, customer service,
transparency and fiscal responsibility. I encourage people to visit our
new site today to learn about the new tools they have at their fingertips.”
Each year, Lake County has more than 2.6 million
website visits and 150,000 searches with most people searching for information
related to property taxes,
health, and jobs or looking for maps and forms. The County sought feedback from
its users (both internal and external) which influenced the design and
structure, and we also followed industry standards and best practices.
“Our users said
clutter was the biggest problem with our old site. The challenge is that people don’t know what
department provides a particular service, so we made it simple for them to find
what they’re looking for with a prominent search bar, mega-menu navigation,
clickable buttons, and content that is
organized with headers and bullets so it’s easier to read and digest,” Lake
County Communications Manager Jennie Vana said.
More than 100 employees across 20
departments worked on the website overhaul for more than a year. The County hired CivicPlus, a leader in
digital technology with more than 2,000 government clients, to build the
County’s new website and manage the project.
Lake County recognizes that a website is
never truly complete and is a work in progress. The County welcomes feedback
from the public that will be considered as the website continues to evolve. A survey
and comment form can found on the homepage.
