New changes at the polling places for the March 15 election
have made registration and voting more convenient than ever before. If
you can’t make it to the polls on March 15, you can register and vote at
several early voting sites across the County prior to Election Day. On Election
Day, those who have not previously registered can locate their assigned voting site and register to vote
there. New electronic check-in systems will be available at each polling place,
which will streamline the check-in process and allow voters to register. Watch this video to learn more about the new changes at the polls.

The electronics recycling program offered by the
Solid Waste Agency of Lake County will be discontinued due to a lack of funds
as of May 1. Residents may use the five sites in Waukegan, Highland Park,
Grayslake, Grant Township and Cuba Township until May 1. Watch this video
as SWALCO
Executive Director Walter Willis and Lake County Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor
discuss the issue.

The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) recently set a goal of
increasing Lake County’s recycling rate from 48% to 60% by 2020, which requires
going beyond traditional recycling of cans and bottles and increasing our
recycling of food scrap. Turning organic waste into valuable compost is a dirty
process as you can see in our latest Lake County’s Dirty
Jobs with Chairman Aaron Lawlor.

Lake County’s
Strategic Plan, which serves as our road map over the next several years,
identifies five strategic goals related to transportation, sustainability,
healthy communities, economic opportunities and public safety. Residents helped
shape the plan by providing input at a series of community forums in 2013.
Residents also asked for more communication and transparency about what Lake
County is doing with their tax dollars. The County Board is committed to being
accountable, accessible and transparent. Visit our
Strategic Plan page to see examples of how we are making progress toward
our strategic goals.
