19th Judicial Circuit to Host National Adoption Awareness Month Event
The Nineteenth Judicial Circuit and the Lake County Board will
observe National Adoption Awareness Month with a special event in the Lake
County Courthouse on Friday, Nov. 20. More than 1,800 children in Illinois found forever
homes last year. However, almost 1,500 children in Illinois and over
100,000 children nationwide are in foster care awaiting permanent loving homes.
In recognition of Adoption Awareness Month, the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit is
partnering with several local organizations to increase awareness about
adoption. This year, adoption advocacy groups are focused on the adoption
of older youth currently in foster care. Each year, more than 22,000 children nationwide reach
the age of 18 without finding forever families.
