Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The cool weather has crept in and Fall is upon us. To most people Fall is just another season but to me it means Lake County budget time! I have been very busy reading the budget books and in joint budget meetings. We have had many great discussions and I believe we have a great plan for 2016.  The County Budget is $7 million and we are holding the line on property taxes by freezing our property tax levy.

My wife Becki and I were able to complete our last harvest of the year last weekend from our garden.  It has been a good year and we took advantage of the beautiful weather to get out and enjoy many of our local venues and try and capture some of the beauty of District 3!

As I was driving around the district I saw many awesome decorations for Halloween but I had to get pictures of these two homes in Lake Villa almost across the street from each other. If you get the opportunity drive on down to the end of Walden Lane and check out these 2 homes.

As some may know, the past few months have been difficult for my family with my mother becoming very ill and passing away. I wanted to say thank you for those who sent their condolences. My family and I appreciate it very much.

Thank you for allowing me to represent you on the Lake County Board and Forest Preserve District.

Your Representative,

Tom Weber

I want to wish you a Safe and Happy Halloween!

Board Cuts Budget by $7M and Holds the Line on Property Tax Levy

The County Board will vote on the 2016 budget next week. The budget allocates $414 million to core services, such as the courts and public safety, transportation, and health services. Our budget is balanced and is $7 million less than last year, and our total number of employees is down 13% from a decade ago. If approved by the full Board, the County’s tax levy on existing properties will remain flat. (As a reminder, the County’s portion of a property tax bill is about 7%). Lake County is fiscally stable due to the Board’s focus on strategic, long-term, data-driven decisions and the Board’s commitment to fiscal responsibility. We continue to invest in our infrastructure like roads, and focus on operational efficiencies, including sharing services with other governments. We are also using data to align operational staffing levels to amount of workload. The uncertainty of the State budget and potential State funding cuts continue to place significant pressure on our budget. Read the FY 2016 Recommended Budget.

New Public Safety Task Force Takes on 911 Consolidation

Over the last several years, Lake County along with fire, police, municipal and other public safety leaders have been discussing opportunities to consolidate many centers into a few regional 911 centers. Understanding Stormwater – It’s More than Just Rain

stormwater

Water from rain, melting snow or ice is constantly moving through watersheds making its ways to our lakes and streams. Since this water doesn’t know jurisdictional boundaries, leaders work together on a countywide approach to manage stormwater and mitigate flooding, as well as protect and restore the environment.  In this County Update, learn more about our Stormwater Management Commission and projects underway across the county.
