 Lake County
has installed electric vehicle charging stations at its county facilities,
which are FREE for public use. These stations provide electric
energy to recharge plug-in electric vehicles, including all-electric cars,
neighborhood electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. Electric vehicle owners
must have a ChargePoint membership to access the County’s charging
stations.
You can
charge your electric vehicle for free at one of these locations:
Lake County Health
Department, 3010 Grand Ave., Waukegan
Lake County Central Permit Facility, 500 W. Winchester Rd., Libertyville
These charging stations may be used no longer
than two hours. Visitors who park beyond that limit may have cars towed at the
owner’s expense. Regular parking fees, if any, will still apply. Learn more about
how Lake County is promoting a sustainable environment, and find out how you
can "Take Action" in greening your home, business and community by
visiting our Sustainability Web Portal.

 Many memorials across this
country honor the men and women who have served during times of war. But these
memorials do not tell the personal stories of hardship, sacrifice and heroism.
As many who served pass on, their stories are never told. The Lake County
Veterans History Project captures the stories told by citizens who served
during wartime, so current and future generations can understand and appreciate
what they did to serve our country. Over the past three years, 70 war veterans
have met at the Lake County Courthouse to share these stories. Watch this video to meet some veterans who took
part in the project. To learn more, visit our Veterans History Project web page.
 The
Lake County Sheriff's Office has received federal funding to purchase body-worn
cameras for Sheriff's deputies as part of the Body-Worn
Camera Pilot Implementation Program. The Sheriff’s Office was one of
only three Illinois law enforcement agencies to be awarded this funding.
The Sheriff's Office will be placing an order for 292 body cameras, which will
be worn by sworn members of the Sheriff’s Office who interact with the public
on a daily basis. Find more info on the Sheriff’s Office
website.

 While warmer temperatures will
hopefully last, several County departments want to help get a head start
addressing the snow and ice that will blanket Lake County all too soon.
Workshops will be offered Oct. 6 and 7 that address sensible salting
practices for more efficient use of deicing materials while protecting the
environment and decreasing costs. These workshops are ideal for public works
and transportation personnel, contractors maintaining private/public walkways
and parking lots, snow plow operators, property managers, facility and grounds
maintenance staff, and others responsible for winter maintenance. More information
