Construction Update: O'Plaine Road at Kennedy Drive

Current Information

Kennedy Drive access to O'Plaine Road is permanently closed.  Motorists should use Hill Avenue.

Excavation work has begun for the West Ave extension and Kennedy Drive cul-de-sac. 

The contractor expects to begin the installation of storm sewer the week of 7/13/15. Installation of the stone subgrade will be next, with curb and gutter work to follow.

The impact to traffic is expected to be minimal.

Project Details

Limits: Intersection of O'Plaine Rd and Kennedy Dr in the City of Waukegan.

Description: Kennedy Dr will be turned into a cul-de-sac at O’Plaine Rd to eliminate access to O’Plaine Rd. This will help to improve safety at the busy intersection of O'Plaine Rd at IL 120.  Local traffic will be able to access O'Plaine Rd at Hill Ave instead.  There will also be an asphalt road extension of West Ave from Hill Ave to Kennedy Dr along with new sidewalk installation.
