Elimination of Township Assessors study limited by RRL

After several good meetings with the Assessors, I came back to the RRL Committee for authority to use staff time to work with the assessors to create a final Lake County report on Centralized Assessments. While several board members said they did not want to use anymore staff time on this issue, including Chair Diane Hewitt, our Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor backed my request and RRL agreed to a limited participation of staff. Board Member Sid Matthias and myself will work with staff and assessors to attempt to finalize our report and get a broad vision of what a Centralized Assessment System would cost, impacts on customer service, and effect on accurate and consistent estimated values. The Draft County report estimated a savings of 4.4 million in cost to the taxpayers of Lake County. Assessors comments said cost savings would be less and contested quality of local customer service under a Centralized System.

It is really a shame that these committee meetings are not video recorded for the public to see and hear these discussions. It is also a shame that virtually no press is ever at any of our meetings so it makes it very hard to get the public involved. These public newsletters from us and our private online media portals are usually the only methods of transmittal of most non-promoted events.

The direction by the Lake County Board is to let the State handle it for now. There had been State Legislator interest in governmental consolidation agendas and particularly the Assessor Elimination issue just this Spring. We will wait to see if anything starts to gel again this summer.....   Stay Tuned!!!

Closing the Gap on the Des Plaines River Trail
Construction has started on the final section of the Des Plaines River Trail that extends just south of Riverside Drive and north of Estonian Lane in Lincolnshire. Completion is expected later this fall. The 8-foot-wide paved trail will run about 1,600 feet long and close the gap between the existing northern and southern sections of the trail.  During construction, southbound trail users can still access the Lincolnshire trail to Milwaukee Avenue. South of the project, the trail will be closed at Estonian Lane. The trail access point at the rear parking lot of the former Cubby Bear property also will be closed until the project is complete. Check the website for updates.
