POLICE ARREST SUBJECT AFTER ATTEMPTING ARMED ROBBERY

On Friday, July 18, 2014 just before 10:00AM police responded to call of a possible robbery in progress in the 1600 block of Emerson St. at the Supreme Image barber shop. Police arriving on scene learned that a subject wearing a mask and gloves was trying to gain entry into the business but fled on foot prior to police arrival. A description was broadcast to officers in the area and an alert officer located a suspicious subject while changing clothes and detained him in the 1400 block Church Street.

Police subsequent to this investigative stop, recovered a glove from the subject which lead to a further discovery of a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun and mask that was used by the subject during the robbery attempt. Detectives investigating the incident obtained a statement from the offender and identified the items recovered as being used in the incident. It was also learned that a security door that requires a buzzer type entry in the barber shop prevented the offender from gaining entry and carrying out the robbery.

Police have charged Devin A. Strong, age 36 of Skokie with attempted armed robbery and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. An arrest photo is attached to this press release for legitimate media publications only.
