EVANSTON POLICE GETTING READY FOR NATIONAL NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME

National Night Out

We are gearing up to host our annual “National Night Out (NNO) Against Crime” this upcoming August 6th and we’re really excited for this year’s 30th Anniversary Celebration. Unlike many communities throughout the country who host one large event/fest that draw citizens out of their respective neighborhoods, we feel that it’s best for citizens to remain in their own communities to take a unified stand against crime and social disorder where they reside. This has been an extremely successful event for Evanston for many years thanks to your support and we look forward to building upon that success this year. In 2011 we had over 15 community groups participate, which set a record for Evanston and last year we had 9. It is our hope that we can partner with you to increase the participation of this great event in every Ward and make this a record number year of participants and community engagement. Please find the event map from last past year attached for your review along with the 2013 Registration Form, so feel free to submit it on behalf of your community group or forward to the proper coordinator. Please register and confirm your event on or before Wednesday, July 30, 2013.

“Give Neighborhood Crime and Drugs A Going Away Party”

This year we will be celebrating our individual block parties on Tuesday, August 6th (6:00 – 9:00 p.m.) along with other cities and states throughout the USA.

What is National Night Out?

National Night Out is a unique crime prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW).  It is designed to (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know the neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

How Can I Get Involved?

Traditionally, neighborhoods are asked to turn on their front porch lights as a display of unity.  We ask that neighborhoods gather together and (1) Plan a neighborhood block party or cookout; (2) Schedule visits from the local police and fire departments; (3) Plan a parade or flashlight walk (4) Design a float;  or (5) Sponsor a youth crime & drug-free activity.
