EVANSTON POLICE SERGEANT MELVIN COLLIER GRADUATES NORTHWESTERN SCHOOL OF POLICE STAFF AND COMMAND

The Evanston Police Department announces the graduation of Sergeant Melvin Collier from Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command on May 24, 2013. Sergeant Collier was a participant of class 342 which began on March 18th at the Evanston campus and had a class size of 31 students from various police agencies throughout the countrUniformy.

The School of Police Staff and Command (SPSC) is an intensive ten-week program that prepares law enforcement managers for senior positions by uniquely combining academic principles with practical applications.

Since the program launched in 1983, the N.U.C.P.S. School of Police Staff and Command has received enthusiastic response from executives and trainers throughout the country. In 2012, the program was redesigned and the course curriculum updated to better incorporate adult and problem-based learning models.

Research is a key component of the School of Police Staff and Command, and many times a student’s research project comes directly from timely and critical issues facing that student’s agency. The knowledge gained can be put to use immediately when that student returns to his or her agency upon completion from the program. Again, congratulations to Sergeant Collier on his successful completion in this intensive law enforcement management program.
