EVANSTON POLICE ARREST AND CHARGE OFFENDER FOR SHOOTING AT A VEHICLE

Evanston Police detectives investigating a shots fired call from last week on April 24th at approximately 4:10PM in the area of Simpson St. and Darrow Ave. arrested and charged James W. Johnson, Age 23 of Evanston on April 27th with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm at a motor vehicle.

 

The investigation began with an initial police response to the scene and police located two witnesses who observed the incident. One witness, a college police intern was able to identify Johnson as the offender firing shots at a Chevy Blazer that was occupied with several Hispanic males. The incident appeared to be prompted when one of the occupants of the Chevy Blazer yelled at Johnson who was walking down the street at which time Johnson pulled out a gun and fired several shots at the vehicle. The victim’s in the incident never came forth in the investigation to cooperate with police, however due to the substantial information provided by the police intern, police were able to make an arrest and obtain a statement from Johnson admitting his involvement in the shooting.

 

Police as of this point have not been able to locate the handgun used in the incident, a .380 caliber semi-automatic.
