ETHS STUDENT ARRESTED FOR BRINGING A TOY PISTOL TO SCHOOL
On December 19th at approximately 1:30 PM, Evanston Township High School Security was alerted to a student that possibly had a gun inside the school. This information was learned by a student and passed along to security staff who notified Evanston Police. As a result of this information, Evanston Police juvenile detectives investigated the allegation along with the Evanston Police School Resource Officer assigned to ETHS and located the student who allegedly had the weapon.
A search conducted by police did not locate a firearm. However, the student was in possession of a toy pistol that closely resembles a real firearm, see attached photo. This item is prohibited from school grounds. The student who is now identified as Adel Mohammed Sobhi, Age 19 was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. It was determined by police that at no time was there any risk regarding safety to students or school staff.
Sobhi will appear in court on the date listed below and also faces disciplinary charges by school district 202 as a result of this incident. No arrest photo is available.
