City Launches Emergency Communication Bracelet Program to Enhance Safety and Accessibility
 EVANSTON, IL - April is Autism Acceptance Month, and in support of the City’s commitment to accessibility and inclusion, it's launching a new Emergency Communication Bracelet Program. The voluntary program is designed for residents with disabilities, including Autistic individuals, people with dementia, and those with hidden disabilities, who may have unique communication or safety needs during emergencies.
Developed in collaboration with the Evanston Police Department, Evanston Fire Department, C.A.R.E. team, and Parks & Recreation's Inclusion & Accessibility Division, the program provides participants with a light blue bracelet featuring a unique ID number linked to confidential emergency information accessible only to first responders. This allows responders to quickly identify and better support an individual’s needs, including communication preferences and emergency contacts.
The program builds on the City’s existing Premise Alert and Hidden Disability Sunflower initiatives and aims to enhance safety, comfort, and connection between residents and emergency personnel.
Residents or guardians may apply by completing the Emergency Communication Bracelet Program Request Form.
