Explore free daily activities at the Ecology Center to commemorate Earth Week, April 20-25.
Join us April 20–25 for a full week of hands-on activities, nature experiences and community fun. Whether you're planting, crafting, learning or repairing, there’s something for everyone. All activities are at the Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Blvd.
All events are free! But please register for sessions. Come for one day or join us all week as we celebrate sustainability, community and our planet.
 Monday, April 20: Plants and Pollinators
Kick off Earth Week on Monday, April 20, at the Ecology Center with community partners like The Ladd Arboretum Stewards and Natural Habitat Evanston. Enjoy a native plant walk, lasagna planting demonstration, tree identification walk, and a drop-in nature craft for kids. Pick up free native tree/shrubs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Register for this free event.
 Tuesday, April 21: Water and Wetlands
Visit the Ecology Center from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a hands-on macroinvertebrate workshop and discover the small but mighty creatures that keep our waterways healthy. Learn how wetlands support local ecosystems, and join Edible Evanston volunteers for tours of their rain garden. Register for this free event.

Wednesday, April 22: Wildlife and Habitat
Start your day with a 7:30 a.m. birding walk at Perkins Woods, then continue the fun from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Ecology Center with bird-themed activities. Highlights include a bird making workshop, guided birding opportunities, hands-on learning with artifacts, and a free native tree/shrub giveaway. Register for this free event.
 Thursday, April 23: Farm to Fork
Join Evanston Grows from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Ecology Center for an interactive evening exploring sustainable food practices. Learn about vermicomposting (worm composting) and turn food scraps into healthy soil, then get creative with art projects using veggie scraps. Register for this free event.
 Friday, April 24: Repair Cafe
Give your broken items a second life at the Earth Week Repair Cafe at the Ecology Center from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Work alongside skilled volunteers to repair electronics, eyeglasses, bikes, jewelry, clothing, and mechanical/electrical general repairs. You may register ahead of time or day of but note patrons will be assisted on a first come, first serve basis. Bring an instrument and join in the community atmosphere with a music jam session open to all ages. Register for this free event.
 Saturday, April 25: Earth Day Fest
Celebrate Earth Day at the Ecology Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with hands-on activities for all ages, including tree plantings, mulching workshops, litter leagues, and a kids’ zone full of eco-themed fun. Connect with local organizations, explore volunteer opportunities, and join us at 1:30 p.m. for a special street sign unveiling honoring Evanston’s Natural Area Stewards. Register for this free event.
