Dear Neighbors,
There are numerous confirmed reports of ICE or other federal agents across Evanston this morning. Please spread the word and work to keep yourself and others safe. Call the ICIRR hotline, 855-435-7693, with any information, and take your whistle with you if you’re going outside.
Yesterday, I read public reports that the FBI has opened an investigation into the incident at Asbury Ave. and Oakton St. in Evanston on October 31. Though I have no specific information about the target of the federal investigation, recent conduct of federal law enforcement should give all of us cause for concern.
I am shocked and angry at the actions of the federal government both specifically related to this incident as well as their conduct generally during “Operation Midway Blitz.” I urge our residents, especially those in the immediate vicinity of the incident site, to learn about their rights pertaining to sharing information with federal authorities: view a document prepared by the ACLU of Illinois that you might find helpful. The City of Evanston will continue to do everything in its power to protect our community and defend the rights of our residents.
