Evanston’s cross country season wrapped up on a high note with an incredible performance from the Kingsley/Willard Preppy Racing Raccoons, this year’s 4th/5th grade champions!
Throughout the fall, runners from schools across Evanston showed grit, teamwork, and sportsmanship at every meet—rain or shine. Congratulations to all our young athletes for a fantastic season.
 Boccia Team Makes Headlines
We’re proud to share that our Adapted Boccia Team has been spotlighted in the latest issue of National Recreation & Parks Association’s Parks & Recreation Magazine! The article highlights how our program—organized by the Evanston Accessible Recreation team—is creating an inclusive sport experience where athletes build skills, create community, and challenge themselves every week.
A huge shout-out to our athletes, coaches, volunteers and support staff who make this possible. Your passion and persistence are what bring the game to life.
Thank you to NRPA for giving our program visibility — helping show how adaptive recreation changes lives and builds community.

Evanston’s The Old Lady Project Shines a Spotlight on Women 50 and Older
Evanston Parks & Recreation’s own Angela Allyn, Community Arts Programs Coordinator, was recently featured on WNUR News for her work leading The Old Lady Project — a creative performance series that celebrates women age 50 and older.
Born from Evanston’s community arts programs, The Old Lady Project gives women a stage to share their stories, showcase their creativity, and challenge stereotypes about aging. In the interview, Angela talks about how the project began and how it continues to inspire participants and audiences alike.
We’re proud to see Angela’s work — and Evanston’s thriving arts community — recognized for empowering women to take center stage at every age. Submissions for 2026 are open November 3 through December 15.
