Asphalt Pavement Crack Sealing Underway at 40+ Locations in Evanston
The City has begun asphalt pavement crack sealing at approximately 40-50 locations throughout Evanston. The work is expected to take three to four weeks to complete, weather permitting.
The project includes grinding out sections of longitudinal and transverse cracks that have reflected through the surface. Once the cracks are “routed,” a fluid rubberized sealing material is injected back into the crack to seal it against water infiltration. With a new dustless process program that is being introduced this year by Patriot Pavement Maintenance, we are looking to cut down on the issue of dust control while the grinding process occurs. Another new service that Patriot is introducing will be the ability to fill cracks over a 2” width. This process of mastic crack seal expands the field of areas that the contractors can repair.
Drivers should expect short delays in specific work zones as flaggers route traffic around the work crews. "No Parking" restrictions will be short and specific to each work area if needed. The work in each location will typically take one to four hours to complete. Street sweeping of excess debris typically occurs the day after crack sealing is done.
