Evanston Fire Department Hosts Annual Open House on September 20
 EVANSTON, IL - The Evanston Fire Department (EFD) will host its Annual Open House on Saturday, September 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fire Department Headquarters, located at 909 Lake Street. This free, family-friendly event offers a behind-the-scenes look at fire and emergency services while providing fun, education, and engagement for all ages.
Event Highlights:
- Giveaways, Info Booths, Food & Refreshments: Enjoy snacks, grab some swag, and take home safety tips to protect your home and family.
- Live Fire Demonstrations: See the dramatic difference fire sprinklers make in real-time fire simulations.
- Vehicle Extrication Demo: Watch firefighters in action as they demonstrate how victims are safely rescued from crashed vehicles using specialized tools.
- Fire Extinguisher Demonstrations: Learn how to properly use a fire extinguisher in hands-on demos.
- Kid’s Firefighter Challenge Course: A fun and interactive obstacle course for kids to test their firefighting skills.
- Evanston Police Department K9 Demonstration: Get up close with EPD’s hardworking canine officers.
- Touch-a-Truck Experience: Kids and adults alike can explore fire trucks, emergency vehicles, and more.
- Fire Station Pole Experience (New this year!): See if this classic part of firehouse lore is really as fun as it looks.
- Drone Demonstrations: Live demos of aerial technology used in emergency response.
- Meet Your First Responders: Connect with Evanston’s firefighters, explore their gear, and learn about their daily work.
- Learn About Community Programs: Explore opportunities with: Fire Explorer Program (for youth), Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and other safety and volunteer initiatives.
This event is one of the Fire Department's favorite ways to connect with the community. It’s an opportunity to open our doors, showcase first responder work, and inspire the next generation of public safety leaders.
Whether you're curious about fire safety, want to meet the people behind the uniform, or are just looking for a great weekend activity, the Evanston Fire Department Open House has something for everyone. Admission is free and open to the public.
