1909 Intake Replacement Project: Pipeline Testing
Project Description
The Evanston Water Utility is continuing the replacement of its oldest water intake. The existing intake, constructed in 1909, is being replaced by a 60-inch diameter pipeline that extends into the lake from the water plant.
Project Update
The installation of the marine pipeline is now complete. However, significant work remains, including the installation of the intake cone array, power cables, chlorine feed lines, and the startup/commissioning processes.
As part of the pipeline testing and acceptance, the Contractor will use small amounts of green dye to assess the pipeline's integrity. It is possible that the dye may be visible in the lake. The dye being used is a non-polluting formula that is safe for use in open water and will not harm fish or wildlife. There is no need for concern if you see dye in the vicinity of the marine work.
All boats and watercraft must stay at least 200 feet away from all marine operations.
Schedule
Marine work operates 24 hours a day. Night work is illuminated for safety and will be visible from shore. Marine work will take place seven days a week, as long as lake conditions permit. This work may take a few weeks to complete.
Contractor Information
The contractor for this project is Ballard Marine Construction LLC, 727 S. 27th Street, Washougal, WA. 98671.
