Things You Should Weigh In On
Envision Evanston Comprehensive Plan The City of Evanston is finalizing a new Comprehensive Plan that will guide land use, housing, infrastructure, mobility, and economic development for the next 20 years.
Key points:

The Comprehensive Plan is scheduled for a City Council vote on August 18.

The zoning code rewrite will occur after the plan is adopted, using it and the upcoming Strategic Housing Plan as guiding documents.

Zoning changes are not expected until early 2026, with discussions beginning as early as January.

The Strategic Housing Plan will likely go before the committee in September.

Housing & Zoning Community Brainstorming Please join us for a housing & zoning brainstorming session during our next Ward Meeting on September 25 at 6:30 PM. This is an opportunity to gather input from residents ahead of the zoning rewrite process. We will not be discussing the comprehensive plan.
Lakefront Vendor Expansion City Council is reviewing a proposal to allow lakefront food and beverage vendors to operate beyond the current September 1 deadline. Email me your thoughts at parielledavis@cityofevanston.org.
District 65 School Closures and Consolidation District 65 is considering school closures as part of its deficit reduction efforts. Learn more about the closings here and about future D65 school board meetings here. The next D65 board meeting is on August 18, 2025.

Northwestern Stadium: A permit was approved for a new stadium with 1,326 seats and enhanced facilities on July 28, 2025. A public meeting was held on June 17. I requested strict limitations on light and noise, which were adopted. More details.

Pending Businesses: Restaurant Burl, Tavern Tallgrass, and Canal Shores Grill Area have permit applications in review.

Chicago Stars Soccer: Games will be held at Martin Field (the field off the lake on Northwestern's campus) in September 2025 and March 2026.

Harley Clarke Mansion: A fall fish boil event is scheduled for September 20, with around 300 guests anticipated.
