Shop until you drop this weekend during sidewalk sales happening across Evanston's business districts. Let’s show our local businesses some love ❤️.
The Main-Dempster Mile: Shop participating businesses along the Main-Dempster Mile this weekend. Enjoy 25+ shops offering clearance deals, vintage finds, and artisan goods. Enjoy live DJs, a “Where’s Waldo?” scavenger hunt, and an open-air market.
Downtown Evanston: Downtown Evanston will host its annual Sidewalk Sale + Chalk Art Contest this weekend, where stores throughout downtown offer awesome deals at racks and tables on the sidewalks. On Saturday, artists of all ages will create chalk art outside of local businesses.
Central Street: Shop outdoor deals, enjoy local eats, and catch live jazz on Sat., July 26 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. along Central Street. Indoor sales will continue on Sunday at participating shops. Learn more.
 City celebrates Prieto Community Center
On Saturday, July 19, City staff joined members of the community and the Prieto family for an official renaming and sign unveiling ceremony for the Dr. Jorge and Luz Maria Prieto Community Center at 430 Asbury Ave! The Prieto Community Center offers drop-in play, accessible recreation, youth gymnastics, seasonal camps, and birthday parties. Learn about upcoming programming and more.

Pavement patching: Starting next week, the City will begin asphalt patching at over 125 locations, improving 31,000 square yards of pavement over four to six weeks, weather permitting. Crews will remove and replace the top two inches of asphalt. View the work location map.
Court Renovations: The City will begin renovating athletic courts at James, Leahy, Ackerman, and Mason Parks this week. James Park’s six tennis courts will be converted into 15 pickleball courts, while the other parks will receive tennis court upgrades. Work is expected to finish by October. Courts will be closed during construction.
 2025 Property Tax Appeals open through August 5
Evanston property owners can submit 2025 property tax appeals to the Cook County Board of Review through August 5. The impact of successful appeals will appear on 2026 tax bills. Please note: 2024 second installment bills are delayed due to a County technology upgrade.
How to file an appeal: Property tax appeals can be filed online at cookcountyboardofreview.com or in person at the Levy Senior Center on July 29 and August 5 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. For assistance, contact mgibbs@cityofevanston.org or call/text 847-448-4311.

City Council's suggested edits to the comprehensive plan can now be accessed on the Envision Evanston 2045 website. Discussion of the draft will continue at a special City Council meeting on Wed., July 30, at 5 p.m. at Morton City Hall (909 Davis St.). Cart tagging helps to cut recycling contamination
Cart tagging helps the City track recycling habits and contamination. Each year, staff visually inspect recycling carts in a specific collection zone and log findings. If contaminants are found, an “Oops” tag is left to inform and educate residents. This year’s audit focused on the Tuesday collection zone, covering 752 households over eight weeks. View the results.

Join the Evanston Police and Parks & Recreation Departments for National Night Out on Tues., Aug. 5, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ingraham Park. Enjoy a free, family-friendly Touch-A-Truck event featuring City vehicles, games, music, community resources, giveaways, and food for purchase.
