Help shape our community's future by reviewing Evanston’s 2025-2029 Consolidated Plan and 2025 Action Plan, and Amended Citizen Participation Plan. These plans outline priorities for using U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development funding for housing, community, and economic development to benefit low- and moderate-income households.
Submit public comment: by email at housing@cityofevanston.org, via mail to 909 Davis Street, Evanston, IL. 60201, or in person at public meetings. The public comment period is open through July 14, 2025.

Busy weekend ahead: traffic impacts expected
Northwestern Commencement Ceremony: An all-University Commencement Ceremony will take place at the United Center in Chicago, beginning at 10:30 a.m., due to ongoing construction at Ryan Field.
On-Campus Convocations: Several school and department convocations will take place on Northwestern University's (NU) campus, beginning Friday afternoon, June 13, and continuing through Mon., June 16, at Ryan Fieldhouse and Welsh-Ryan Arena. Expect heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Please plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time.
Lakefront Fireworks Celebration: NU will celebrate the Class of 2025 with a fireworks display on Sun., June 15, at 8:45 p.m. Fireworks will launch from a barge in Lake Michigan near the lakefill.
Rally Notice: A "No Kings Rally" will take place in downtown Evanston at Fountain Square on Sat., June 14, as part of a national day of action. Please expect increased foot traffic and potential traffic delays in the area.
Race Against Hate: The annual Ricky Byrdsong Memorial Race Against Hate will take place on Sun., June 15, from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., starting at Floyd Long Field. Thousands are expected to participate in this walk/run promoting unity against racial hatred and violence.
 Celebrate the newly renovated Independence Park
Join us for a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Sat., June 14, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., to celebrate the newly renovated Independence Park. Speakers will include Angela Shaffer from Central Street, former Councilmember Revelle, and Mayor Biss. After the ceremony, head to the Central Street Business District to take advantage of local business specials.
 Sign up for the Recycle Coach platform! ♻️
The City has partnered with Recycle Coach to help residents reduce waste and improve recycling habits. Through the free Recycle Coach platform, available online or via mobile app, users can access collection schedules, receive service updates, search “What Goes Where?”, and more.
Refuse alerts: The City’s current refuse text reminder alert system will end in June. Starting July 1, refuse reminder alerts will be sent through Recycle Coach. Please re-enroll for alerts through this new platform.

Save the Date: Main Street Fair, June 28
Evanston’s new Main Street Fair will revive the spirit of the beloved Custer Street Fair with a full day of art, music, food, and family fun on Sat., June 28, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Enjoy 100+ artisans, a kids and teens area, a Youth Marketplace, and live music on three stages.
Friendly reminder: Lawn irrigation
From May 15 to September 15, no lawn watering is allowed between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Odd-numbered addresses may water on odd dates, and even-numbered addresses on even dates, outside these hours. Garden watering is exempt from this ordinance.
Land Use Commission’s Plan amendments released
The Land Use Commission’s proposed amendments to the draft comprehensive plan have been released.
Provide your feedback: The recommended content will be discussed at a special City Council meeting on Tues., June 24, at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Morton City Hall, 909 Davis St. A second special meeting will follow on July 21. Please plan to attend and provide your feedback. You can also share feedback via our online public comment form. Learn more.
Reminder: beach flag warning system 🚩
The City uses a color-coded flag system on lifeguard chairs at swimming beaches to indicate current conditions: red = no swimming, yellow = swim with caution, green = open for swimming. Always check the flag before entering the water and follow all lifeguard instructions.
