FRÍO Gelato: Summer time equals Ice Cream!
Frio Gelato is an Evanston staple when it comes to providing delicious frozen treats to our taste buds' delight.
FRÍO Gelato was born out of love of enjoying the Argentine style ice cream at the neighborhood “gelatería” with friends and family. Cousins and best friends Sebastián Koziura and Enrique Schcolnik decided it was time to bring this delicacy to the Chicago area after moving to the U.S.
Inspired by the traditional, family-style gelaterías of their childhood, they opened this family business based out of Evanston, IL. The flagship store is located in the Main Dempster Mile commercial district at 1301 Chicago Avenue and in the Ashland Arts District at 1701 Simpson Street. Their popularity led to expansions in Wilmette and Navy Pier.
While many gelato manufacturers use pre-made bases and add artificial powdered flavorings to make their gelato, FRÍO Gelato pasteurizes and produces a homemade recipe made with hormone-free milk and natural ingredients.
Gelato and sorbet flavors range from the most typical found on any corner gelatería in Buenos Aires, to flavors they have artfully created here using their cross-cultural understanding of the US and Latin American palates.
Menu options offer a dizzying array of choices with mouthwatering flavors like Malbec Wine with Berries, Mint Chocolate Chip made with Peppermint Tea, Argentine Milk Caramel Chocolate Chip and many other options.
