Evanston Man Charged With Attempted Murder in Hospital Shooting
 EVANSTON, IL — On June 5, 2025, at approximately 7:57 p.m., Evanston Police officers responded to a report of a shooting at Endeavor Health Evanston Hospital, located on the 2600 block of Ridge Ave.
Upon arrival, officers located a 33-year-old female security officer suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim had been working in her capacity as hospital security when the shooting occurred. A second security officer, a 47-year-old female, sustained bite-related injuries while taking the suspect, Christian Haywood, a 28-year-old male, into custody.
An immediate investigation was initiated by the Evanston Police Department’s Investigative Services Division. Their investigation revealed that Haywood had been transported to the emergency room for treatment. While in the emergency room, Haywood began to act in a distressed manner, and two hospital security officers entered the treatment area. An altercation took place, and Haywood produced a handgun, a Ruger LCP MAX .380 caliber, and discharged it at least three times, striking the victim in her left upper and lower extremities. While Haywood was being subdued and disarmed, he bit the second victim. Haywood was then detained until officers arrived. The shooting victim underwent surgery for her injuries and remains in stable condition.
A subsequent search of Haywood’s property at the Evanston Police Department revealed he had a second firearm, a North American Arms .22 caliber, in his possession, though it was not used during the hospital incident.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the investigation, which included witness statements and video footage, and approved one felony count of Attempted First Degree Murder, as well as additional felony and misdemeanor offenses.

On today's date, Haywood was transported to the Leighton Criminal Courthouse, 2650 S. California Ave., for a detention hearing scheduled at 12:30 p.m.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
