Memorial Day holiday schedule announced
The City has announced service changes for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Refuse collection reminder: No collections will occur on Mon., May 26. All waste services will be postponed by one day.
Memorial Day Ceremony: Join the Evanston American Legion Post 42 for a Memorial Day community reflection and ceremony honoring America's fallen heroes at Fountain Square on Mon., May 26, at 10:30 a.m.
 Swimming beaches open this weekend
Ready to feel the sand between your toes and take a refreshing dip in Lake Michigan? Evanston beaches open for the season this Saturday.
Evanston residents: Beaches are free for you again this year. However, all beach patrons must present a season beach pass or daily ticket to enter. Pick up your passes with proof of residency from community centers.
Non-Evanston residents: Season beach passes or daily beach tickets are required for Evanston's swimming beaches. Buy daily tokens on the Yodel platform starting May 24 or in person at Dempster or Clark Street Beach offices. Season passes are available at Evanston community centers.
New for 2025: Families who live outside of Evanston (60201 or 60202) and who have students enrolled in School District 65 or ETHS are eligible to receive free beach passes. Learn more.

Celebrate Asian Heritage: Umbrella Arts Fest
Join Evanston ASPA for the annual Umbrella Arts Festival, a celebration of Asian American history and culture on Sat., May 31, from noon to 5 p.m. at Fountain Square. Head out to enjoy music, dance, art, food, and more!
Check out more events and activities happening throughout Evanston to close out Asian, South Asian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
 Get in the spirit – parade registration is open!
Annual Juneteenth Parade: Participate in this year's Juneteenth Parade on June 21 to help celebrate the federal Juneteenth holiday. The parade will take place at 11 a.m. Register today.
Evanston 4th of July Parade: Registration for the ward-winning annual parade is now open through June 10. The Evanston 4th of July Association is also seeking volunteers to support various aspects of the celebration, including parade marshaling and event supervision. Visit evanston4th.org.

Join us on Fri., May 23, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center for the free Love Your Block Evanston Launch Party. Celebrate the 30 mini-grant winners and enjoy food and activities.

City to host ribbon-cutting ceremony for Bent Park
The City has completed Bent Park Field House renovations after the facility sustained significant fire damage. Improvements include exterior repairs, a new roof, enhanced accessibility, a full conversion to all-electric, and more. Join us for a celebratory ribbon cutting on Fri., May 23 at 2 p.m.
Evanston City Council supports quality transit
On April 28, the City Council passed resolution 45-R-25, shaped by ongoing public feedback, supporting a strong, modern, and accessible public transit system. With COVID-era funding ending soon, state legislators are working on solutions to meet community needs and prevent critical cuts.
ComEd utility work in manholes expected May 27-June 27
ComEd will perform utility work in manholes across several Evanston streets between May 27 and June 27 as part of efforts to improve electrical reliability ahead of the Ryan Field Project. Work includes rod and roping operations and cable installation. More info.
City celebrates IDOT-awarded funding
Expect traffic, parking restrictions for weekend graduations
Multiple graduation ceremonies are scheduled this weekend, May 24 and May 25. Expect increased traffic around the Welsh-Ryan Area and parking restriction enforcement for District 6. Parking restrictions will be enforced two hours before and one hour after each event.
- Saturday, May 24: Loyola Academy's ceremony is at 11 a.m.
- Sunday, May 25: Niles West and Niles North High School Graduation ceremonies will take place at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
