Skokie Woman Charged in Evanston Hit-and-Run That Injured Pedestrian
EVANSTON, IL - A Skokie woman has been charged in connection with an April 25 hit-and-run that injured a pedestrian at the intersection of Grove Street and Chicago Avenue.
At approximately 1:40 p.m. on April 25, Evanston police responded to the intersection following a report of a vehicle striking a pedestrian. Officers arrived to find a 63-year-old woman who had been hit while crossing Chicago Avenue eastbound on Grove Street. Witnesses said a light-colored SUV traveling westbound on Grove Street struck the woman while turning south onto Chicago Avenue.
The vehicle did not remain at the scene. The victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Evanston Police Department’s Traffic Bureau investigated the crash, including a review of traffic cameras and license plate readers. That investigation identified a silver Honda SUV registered to a residence in the 4900 block of Kirk Street in Skokie as the offending vehicle.
On May 2, at approximately 9:30 a.m., officers observed the suspect vehicle leaving that address. The vehicle was stopped in the 1400 block of Chicago Avenue. The driver, identified as Debra Cohen, was interviewed by officers. During the interview, Cohen confirmed she had been driving the Honda at the time of the incident.
