Evanston Man Charged With Attempted Murder in Domestic-Related Shooting
EVANSTON, IL - A 57-year-old Evanston man has been charged with attempted murder following a domestic-related shooting that occurred Saturday evening in the 2300 block of Greenwood Street.
On May 3, at approximately 7:55 p.m., Evanston police officers responded to multiple reports of shots fired and a call from a victim who stated a family member had fired a gun at him and a second victim during a domestic dispute.
Officers met with one of the victims, a 34-year-old Evanston man, in the 2200 block of Dempster Street. The victim stated that he had a verbal altercation with an intoxicated family member. The victim reported that he and a second victim, a 48-year-old Evanston man, had been leaving the Greenwood Street residence in a van when the offender, identified as John Ross Sr., approached and fired several shots at the vehicle. The van was struck by gunfire, but no injuries were reported.
Responding officers recovered multiple spent shell casings at the Greenwood Street scene and ballistic evidence from the van. An uninvolved family member was safely evacuated from the home, and Ross was confirmed to be inside. He surrendered to police without incident at approximately 9:40 p.m.
Ross was transported to the Evanston Police Department for further investigation. Detectives executed a search warrant at his residence, resulting in the recovery of ammunition but no firearms.
