Evanston Police Announce Results of Recent Tobacco Product Compliance Check
EVANSTON, IL - On May 9, 2025, the Evanston Police Department conducted tobacco product compliance checks. The compliance checks were performed at 35 Evanston businesses to determine if local tobacco product retailers are complying with the minimum-age tobacco laws that prohibit the sale of tobacco products to persons under the age of 21.
One of the businesses checked was no longer selling tobacco products, and another one was closed at the time of the check.

With the help from a grant awarded by the Illinois Department of Human Services Tobacco Enforcement Program, the Evanston Police Department educates local tobacco product retailers on minimum-age tobacco product laws and the importance of verifying the age of customers before selling age-restrictive products such as tobacco products. Tobacco product retailers are given a retailer education packet and notified that the compliance checks are going to occur in the near future.
