It's time to clear the clutter
Dispose of bulk items for free this spring as part of the City's Bulk Trash Pickup program. Collections take place on Fridays, April 4 through 25, and are scheduled according to residents' normal refuse pickup day.

We're smoothing things over! Alley grading begins
The City’s Public Works Agency has announced its 2025 alley maintenance schedule. Starting in the spring every year, Evanston's more than 300 unpaved alleys are periodically graded by the City.
Why grade the alleys? This work is done to eliminate potholes and ruts caused by vehicles, weather, and other factors.
Sign up for Free Mental Health First Aid training
The City is offering free Mental Health First Aid training for community members, providing the skills to recognize, understand, and respond to signs of mental health challenges and substance use disorders.
Participate in a training: All Evanston community members are invited to register for a training at no cost. Training dates/locations will be determined based on community interest. If you're interested in participating, fill out our survey. For more information, contact health@cityofevanston.org.

Increase in Measles Cases Nationwide
As of March 13, 301 cases of measles have been reported in 14 states this year, with the majority occurring as part of a large outbreak in West Texas. In comparison, 285 cases were reported nationwide throughout 2024, already a steep increase from the 59 cases recorded in 2023.
Measles is a highly contagious virus that causes a rash and high fever. It spreads through the air as well as through respiratory droplets. Young children, pregnant individuals, and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of complications, but measles can be a serious disease for anyone. Potential complications include hospitalization, pneumonia, and brain damage.
There are no known measles cases in Illinois this year, but we ask all residents to ensure they are up to date on their measles vaccinations. Most people should have two doses of the vaccine (commonly documented as MMR or MMRV on an immunization record). If you cannot locate your record, please call your doctor or check the Illinois immunization registry. If you are unsure whether you are up to date with current recommendations, contact your healthcare provider to receive a dose of MMR as soon as possible.
If you have questions regarding measles, please contact Evanston Health and Human Services by calling 847-448-4311 or emailing health@cityofevanston.org.
