Evanston Man Arrested with a Handgun
 EVANSTON, IL - An Evanston man was taken into custody Thursday morning after officers found him in possession of a loaded handgun near the Evanston Public Library.
At approximately 10:30 a.m. on March 6, Evanston Police Officers responded to the 600 block of Church Street after receiving information that a known subject, Desrick Yorke, was in the area and armed.
Upon arrival, an officer located Yorke walking on the sidewalk. Yorke was wanted in connection with a prior incident, and the officer immediately took him into custody. A search of Yorke revealed a loaded Smith & Wesson .380 handgun inside his coat pocket.
Yorke was transported to the Evanston Police Department for further investigation. During an interview, he detailed how he came to be in possession of the handgun. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and approved a felony charge of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon.
