Evanston Man Charged with UPW and Armed Robbery
EVANSTON, IL - The Evanston Police Department arrested a man on February 27, 2025, following an undercover operation targeting a pattern of armed robberies in the 300 block of Custer Avenue.
At approximately 12:30 p.m., officers initiated the operation in response to multiple incidents in which victims were lured to the area through social media before being robbed at gunpoint.
During the operation, an undercover officer arranged to meet a suspect believed to be responsible for the previous robberies. Armed with a handgun, the suspect approached the undercover officer in the backyard of a residence. The officer retreated to a secure location as the suspect advanced.
As uniformed officers moved in to make an arrest, the suspect fled. While attempting to escape, he discarded a Glock 9mm handgun, which was recovered by officers.
