The City remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and welcoming community for all residents, regardless of immigration or citizenship status. View the City's "Welcoming City Ordinance", which was updated on Monday, January 13.
"Know Your Rights" Workshop: In case you missed it, the City held a workshop on Mon., Jan. 20 to share resources. View the "Know Your Rights" presentation presented by the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant & Refugee Rights and watch a video of the workshop. More info.

Celebrate the Lunar New Year: Evanston ASPA, the Main-Dempster Mile, and McGaw YMCA will host the Lunar New Year Celebration on Sun., Jan. 26, at noon, on the 600 Block of Dempster St. This event will honor the Year of the Snake with highlights including a Lion Dance, arts and crafts, food tastings, and speeches from Mayor Biss and Commissioner Morita.
Shop 'til you drop: Don’t miss the Central Street Annual InSidewalk Sale this weekend, January 24-25! Shop deals on holiday, fall, and winter clearance items at participating businesses during regular store hours.
Watch as we Light the Night: For one night only (January 25, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.), solar and battery-powered works by local artists will light up Tallmadge Park! Stop by to sip hot cocoa and wander through the glow.
 Seniors: apply for property tax relief programs
Illinois seniors aged 65 and older may qualify for property tax relief through three programs: the Senior Tax Deferral program, the Senior Citizen Exemption, and the Senior Freeze Exemption. Currently, only the Senior Tax Deferral program is open, with applications due by March 1. The other programs will begin accepting applications in late February.

Adoptable Pet of the Month: Nougat
 Looking for a new, furry best friend? Meet Nougat, a sweet, playful, growing puppy. Nougat is currently living with a foster family and gets along great with kids, cats, and other dogs. He was found as a stray in James Park. He loves cuddles, toys, and following his humans around everywhere. Interested in adopting Nougat? Visit the Evanston Animal Shelter's website.
