Each year, the City conducts millions of dollars of Capital Improvement Projects throughout Evanston. Check out a roundup of our completed projects from 2024 as well as 2025 projects to keep an eye out for!

Believe it or not, it's already time to start planning for summer camps! Our Parks & Recreation team has released its 2025 Summer Camp Guide in both English and Spanish.
Summer camp registration: Registration for Evanston residents opens on February 1 and for non-residents on February 8.
Summer Camp Open House: Head to the Levy Center on Friday, Jan. 10, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. to discover a variety of camp options available this summer. There will be info sessions tailored to help you find the perfect fit for your kids before registration opens, giveaways, and raffles.

Announcing FJTheatre's 2025 season 🎭
The Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre has announced its 2025 season including three plays and a special event: "Honey Pot: Black Southern Women Who Love Women", Gloria Bond Clunie Playwrights Festival, "Pass Over", and "The Baldwin Giovanni Experience". Tickets go on sale March 1.

Continue composting all winter long
The City's Food Scrap program cleared 500 tons of food scraps collected in 2024, helping to enhance our soil and reduce greenhouse gas emissions! Thank you to our exclusive hauler, Collective Resource Compost.
Drop-off sites: The City offers two complimentary drop-off spots for community members unable to compost at home. These locations include the Robert Crown Center and the Gibbs-Morrison Cultural Center.
Winter-Gap Compost Service: Don’t stop composting because of the cold weather months. Sign up to participate in Collective Resource's Winter Gap Service for Evanston residents.

Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Celebrate Dr. MLK Jr. Day with "The Black Women’s Legacy in the Movement" on Saturday, Jan. 18, at noon. Head to the Fleetwood-Jourdain Center to enjoy community performances featuring West African drumming, dancing, spoken word, and more.

Stay off the dangerous lake front shelf ice
Community members are reminded to please avoid walking on shelf ice that builds up along the lakefront as it can be extremely dangerous for people and pets (View shelf ice graphic). Learn more.
Free safer sex supplies and sexual health resources
The Evanston Health Department hosts free Sexual Health and Wellbeing Pop-Ups on the second Tuesday of each month at the Robert Crown Center and Evanston Public Library. Offerings include condoms and dental dams, STI and HIV risk reduction counseling, referrals, and more!
The 2024 Open Data Annual Report is now available
In 2024, the City reactivated its Open Data Program to strengthen transparency, accountability, and community engagement through accessible municipal data. View the annual report, which outlines the status, achievements, and strategic direction of the program.
