Evanston Police Department Releases Holiday Enforcement Numbers
Evanston, IL - The Evanston Police Department conducted a traffic safety campaign from Dec. 13 to Jan. 2 aimed at reminding motorists to buckle up and drive sober this holiday season. The “Click It or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” mobilization was carried out by the Evanston Police Department in collaboration with state and local law enforcement agencies across Illinois to reduce fatalities. The result? A safer holiday season with 171 citations issued for seat belt, speeding, distracted driving and other traffic offenses.
During the campaign, the Evanston Police Department reported the following enforcement outcomes:
- 21 speeding citations.
- 79 occupant restraint citations.
- 30 electronic device use citations.
- 12 no insurance citations.
- 29 other traffic citations.
- 7 traffic arrests.
- 1 warrant arrest.
“We can’t stress it enough: Impaired driving is a deadly gamble,” said Traffic Sergeant Jeff Faison. “It’s illegal, it’s irresponsible and it puts lives at risk – yours, your passengers’ and everyone else’s on the road. Campaigns like ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ empower us to address this issue directly and send a clear message. If you’re under the influence of alcohol, cannabis or anything else, don’t drive.”
The enforcement initiative, administered by IDOT and funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, underscores the collective commitment to safer roadways, particularly during high-risk times like the holidays.
“This effort isn’t just about enforcement,” said Sgt. Faison. “It’s about protecting lives and ensuring every celebration ends safely for everyone.”
