Gurnee Man Charged with UUW
EVANSTON, IL - On December 18, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., officers were on patrol in the 700 block of Seward Street when they observed a parked Nissan Kicks. The vehicle, with three occupants inside, was observed in an area experiencing recent burglaries and catalytic converter thefts.
Upon investigation, officers detected the odor of cannabis emanating from the vehicle. The officers made contact with the Nissan’s occupants, including the driver, Alante Waters. The officers observed cannabis and had the occupants exit the vehicle. A search led to the recovery of a PSA Dagger 9mm and two empty 31-round extended magizines. A live 9mm round of ammunition was located on the driver’s side floorboard. The firearm was reported stolen from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Waters was placed under arrest and transported to the police station for further investigation. The investigation revealed that Waters did not possess a valid Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card or Concealed Carry License (CCL).
The two passengers were detained but not charged and were released at the scene. The cannabis was recovered and inventoried. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the investigation and approved two felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Click here for a picture of the gun.
