Evanston Man Arrested for DUI and UUW
EVANSTON, IL - On December 8, 2024, at approximately 6:40 a.m., officers responded to a call of a man asleep behind the wheel near the intersection of Dodge Avenue and Monroe Street. Upon arrival, officers located a silver Toyota Avalon with a male subject in the driver’s seat. Initial attempts to wake the man were unsuccessful. Officers opened the vehicle’s door and woke the individual, identified as Julius Middleton. Officers observed signs of intoxication during the interaction.
As officers continued their investigation, they observed a.45-caliber Glock 41 handgun on the floorboard beneath the driver’s seat. While officers had Middleton exit the vehicle, he fled on foot. After a brief pursuit, officers apprehended him. Middleton resisted arrest but was taken into custody, and the firearm was recovered from the Toyota.
Middleton was transported to the station for further investigation, which revealed he did not have a valid Illinois Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card or a Concealed Carry License (CCL). He was also charged with driving under the influence. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved two felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Middleton also received several traffic citations in addition to the weapons and a DUI charge.
