Arrest Made and Search Warrant Executed in Robbery and Shooting Investigation
 EVANSTON, IL - The Evanston Police Department has arrested a suspect and executed a search warrant in connection with a November robbery and a December shooting incident.
On Nov. 11, 2024, at approximately 10:30 a.m., officers responded to a robbery in the 1900 block of Green Bay Road. The victim reported arranging to sell a jacket through the OfferUp app. During the transaction, one of the two suspects tried on the jacket and fled. When the victim gave chase, one of the suspects brandished a handgun, forcing the victim to stop. The suspects escaped with the jacket. The victim was unharmed.
On Dec. 1, 2024, at approximately noon, officers responded to multiple calls of shots fired in the 1800 block of Lyons Street. Witnesses reported seeing an unidentified man fire several shots at another individual. Officers recovered spent shell casings from the street and the west alley of the 1700 block of Darrow Avenue. A vehicle parked in the church lot at 1700 Darrow was struck, shattering a window.
Investigators identified Londel Overton, 19, of Evanston, as an offender in both incidents.
On Dec. 3, 2024, at approximately 3:00 p.m., officers located Overton in the 1600 block of Emerson Street. Overton fled when officers attempted to apprehend him but was arrested in the 1800 block of Darrow Avenue. During the pursuit, Overton discarded a Glock 9 mm hundgun and struck an officer in the chin with his forearm.

These investigations were reviewed with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the State’s Attorney approved four felony charges (see blow).
As part of the ongoing investigation, on Dec. 6, 2024, the Evanston Police Department, with assistance from the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS), executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1800 block of Lyons Street.

Court Information
Overton was detained by the Cook County Sheriff. His next court date is December 30, 2024, at 9 a.m. at the Skokie Courthouse.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
