Read below for information about the Mayor's Holiday Drive, "A Bright Night for the Arts", upcoming holiday events, and ways to stay engaged with the City.
Plus, don't forget, the City is once again offering a free holiday parking promotion. Enjoy up to two hours of free parking daily through January 1. Simply enter the code "Holiday2024" using the Park Evanston app (restrictions apply).
 Mayor's Holiday Food, Book and Toy Drive 🎁
The deadline to contribute to the Mayor's Holiday, Food, Book & Toy Drive is fast approaching – make your donation by Mon., Dec. 9, and help brighten the season for those in need!
If you're a family looking to receive food items and toys through this event, don't forget to register by calling 847-448-4311 by Fri., Dec. 6.

Join the Main-Dempster Mile for the Hometown Holiday Stroll: Kick off your holiday shopping with treats, live music, carolers, and more tonight (December 5). Don’t miss this festive, family event!
Shop until you drop: The Evanston Made Holiday Market is now open at 924 Davis St. Shop unique, handmade gifts from local artists, Thursdays through Sundays until December 22.
Light up the night: Join Downtown Evanston on Sat., Dec. 7, from 4:30 to 7 p.m., for the annual Holiday Light Celebration at Fountain Square! Kick off the evening with festive holiday music, then watch as Mayor Biss, City Clerk Mendoza, and Santa light up the tree.
 Celebrate the arts in Evanston!
The Evanston Arts Council has announced the 2024 recipients of the annual Mayor’s Awards for the Arts! This year, Genie Lemieux and Art Makers Outpost will be honored for their outstanding contributions to Evanston's vibrant arts community.
Attend "A Bright Night for the Arts": Join Mayor Biss on Sat., Dec. 7, at 6 p.m., at Studio 5, for a night of celebration featuring live performances by Mudlark Theater, delicious appetizers, and a cash bar. Register to attend.
 Help keep pedestrians safe downtown
Sidewalks are for everyone, giving us safe and shared spaces to get around. To help keep pedestrians safe downtown, the City does not allow you to ride on the sidewalks in downtown Evanston. While you can still ride on the streets, if you choose to go on the sidewalk please dismount your bicycles, skateboards, scooters, or roller skates first. Learn more.

To mark five years since the adoption of Resolution 126-R-19, the Evanston Public Library is hosting "The Road to Reparations in Evanston", an exhibit running through January 31. Send a letter to Santa
Santa is accepting letters from Evanston kids until December 15! Kids can drop a letter into the special North Pole mailbox at the Chandler-Newberger Community Center. Don't forget to include a self-addressed stamped envelope and a wish list to receive a letter back from Santa.
Chicago Avenue Corridor Meeting: share your input!
Join us for a community meeting about the Chicago Avenue Corridor Project, which spans from Howard to Davis Streets and aims to enhance safety and comfort for all users. The meeting will focus on parking impacts along the corridor and City staff will be available to answer questions.
Submit your Special Event Permits
Planning a special event in Evanston? Submit your Special Event Permit Application by Fri., Jan. 31, 2025. This includes all outdoor events on City property or those significantly impacting the City. Approval is required from the Special Events Committee and, in some cases, the City Council.
Stay engaged with Envision Evanston 2045
The Envision Evanston 2045 team shared an update about January meeting dates and feedback opportunities for community members to provide their thoughts on the Draft Comprehensive Plan, Zoning Code documents, and Zoning Map. Check it out!
World AIDS Day: “Collective Action: Sustain and Accelerate HIV Progress”
Celebrated annually on December 1, World AIDS Day is a reminder of the global effort to end HIV-related stigma, an opportunity to honor those we have lost, and a commitment to work toward a future where HIV is no longer a public health threat.
The City’s Health and Human Services Department shares this goal with millions worldwide: to end the HIV epidemic.
